Arena Commander


(Citizen Star News) - 2014-05-17 - If all goes well, Star Citizen's Arena Commander will launch in a little less than two weeks, May 29th, which for once is not a delay! The last date we got was that they were aiming for a release towards the end of the month. This comes with big caveats though, "This date is based on our best possible projections using the latest information put together by Star Citizen’s production team as of this afternoon."

(Citizen Star News) - 2014-05-10 - Cloud Imperium games released another status report via this COMM-LINK.

We are moving along towards an imminent release. No date quite yet. Could it be in the next week? Doesn't look like it. We now hear from Chris Roberts himself, "the goal is to start rolling out the DFM towards the end of this month".

In a slight change of plan, as soon as they roll it out everyone will be able to play single player against Vanduul AI. There will be staged access to multi-player servers

We also recently learned that the staging will be done by Citizen Number, confirmed in this COMM-LINK. So the earlier you backed and registered the sooner you will be playing other Citizens.

A handbook for new pilots in Arena Commander

For all those aspiring jet jockey's out there the sight of X-wings and Veritech's engaging in space combat was a thrilling thing to see as a kid. However, both used atmospheric flight styles and limited what they could really do as combat craft. Other series like Babylon 5, and the reimagined Battlestar Galactica took a more realistic approach at how a space based fighters would fly using reaction control thrusters and inertial drift. With that said, we are going to take a brief look at how to fly your Hornet using Newtonian physics to your advantage as well as using your thrusters to make maneuvers impossible in atmosphere combat.

"The Basics"

Before one can dogfight in Zero-G one needs to have an understanding of how to dogfight under atmospheric conditions.

In the first world war the edicts of modern air combat were born from trial an error by the first combat pilots. Failure then meant death or grievous injury and it was a lesson learned quickly by all pilots. Many famous pilots that are still spoken of in legend and history were made famous by the bi-plane duels over the Western Front. Some like the Infamous Red Baron were killed in action, while others like Eddie Rickenbacker went on to form modern air forces around the globe. One in particular, Adolph Gysbert Malan, made famous his 10 rules of air combat, which still holds true today.

(Citizen Star News) - 2014-04-25 - In a surprise COMM-LINK today detailing the progress of the Arena Commander module (formerly known as the DFM), the news was broken that chat is being added to the v1 version that we should be playing soon... at some future non-disclosed date.

Our chat system is also underway! One of the things that became rapidly apparent during our cross-studio playtesting was that we needed the ability to taunt one another if we weren’t in the same room. Luckily we’re close to having a functioning chat system as we close out this week so we won’t have this problem much longer!

In this episode, Hosts Stalker and Anders broadcast from PAX East and talk about their experience at the DFM, Arena Commander reveal, with a largely positive response (at least until the closing thoughts).

"The podcast for people that think the word 'Verse is stupid." Ah ... well... apparently we at the Citizen Star are not the target audience, but mostly enjoyed the 'cast anyway.

Fair warning: Not really safe for work, and make sure you have a sense of humor about yourself and your dedication to Star Citizen before listening. I imagine more than one set of headphones have been destroyed by being tossed across a room by listeners who are not prepared.
